Finding Peace in Our Tumultuous World

Over the past few years, our world seems to have been turned upside down! Our season of seeming global peace halted abruptly. Wars, natural disasters, ethnic and religious cleansings, and other crimes against humanity all seem to be on the rise. The cost of living is spiking concurrently with job losses.

In conversations with people around the world, a recurring topic has been stress. People’s nerves are frayed, and everyone is on edge and worried about what the future holds. As a result of increased stress levels, people have begun to develop health issues like excessive daytime fatigue and trouble concentrating due to a lack of sleep, gastrointestinal disorders, anxiety, depression, and more.

Are you one of the masses drowning in it all? Today God has sent me with a reminder: “Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite.” Psalm 147:5 KJV

It is easy to become so consumed by the troubles around us that we lose sight of the One who holds us together. The constant stream of troubling headlines, financial pressures, uncertainty about tomorrow, and concerns for our loved ones can leave us feeling overwhelmed. Pause and remember that God’s greatness is beyond our ability to measure or fully comprehend. No crisis is greater than His power. No situation is beyond His knowledge. No future is hidden from His sight.

I’m not making light of the reality of our experiences of fear, grief, disappointment, or uncertainty. I’m just reiterating that we do not have to face these realities as though we are alone or without hope. Our circumstances may be unpredictable, but our God remains faithful.

In Mark 4:35-41, when the disciples found themselves in a fierce storm, they became frightened as the waves threatened to destroy their boat and end their lives. But Jesus was with them! When they woke Him, He rebuked the wind and the waves, and a great calm followed.

How often do we behave like the disciples? We see the storm, hear the wind, feel the waves, and begin to fear, wondering whether we will make it through. Although we know God is with us, our attention often focuses more on what threatens our peace. I invite you to pause and engage with our Abba Father who speaks peace to us, in the midst of our raging storms.

The lesson is not that every storm will immediately disappear when we pray. Rather, it is that when storms present themselves, we have hope, and can experience God’s peace that often doesn’t make sense to our finite minds. Isaiah 41:10 (NASB 2020) reminds us, “Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will also help you, I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

Our peace grows as we learn to anchor our thoughts in who God is, and His promises to us, rather than allowing our circumstances to dictate our responses. We can acknowledge what is happening in the world without allowing it to consume our hearts and minds.

Let’s make this practical: move this truth from head knowledge, to heart knowledge, and to a daily way of living.

Take the next seven days to put this message into practice:

  1. Read: Spend at least five minutes each day in Scripture, beginning with Psalm 145, Psalm 46, or Isaiah 26:3.
  2. Declare: Speak aloud, “My circumstances may be uncertain, but my God is great, faithful, and worthy of my trust.”
  3. Record: Write down one daily reminder of God’s goodness and faithfulness.
  4. Respond: Pray a brief prayer and choose one action to carry into the day.
  5. Share: Encourage someone who may be feeling overwhelmed. Share a Scripture, offer a listening ear, or pray with them.
  6. Recenter: Whenever worry rises, pause, pray, and deliberately turn your attention to God’s character and promises.

As you journey through these seven days, remember that the goal is not simply to go through the motions, but to let God’s Word reshape your perspective. As you grow in your understanding of God’s greatness, may your trust deepen, your heart find renewed hope, and your life become a testimony to the truth that our God is greater than anything we may face.

At the end of the seven days of consistently keeping Psalm 147:5 in front of your mind, reflect on what has changed in your thinking, your responses, and your sense of hope. Write it down and if possible share here on QuietConfidence.org to bless and encourage others.
