No Fuel, No Fire

Today, I was awakened by the Holy Spirit at 4 am to tune in to a livestream service and within the first 5 minutes of the service, through the pastor who spoke 8 simple words, I received the entire lesson that He wanted me to receive. Psalm 46:10a says, “Be still and know that I am God….”

As I contemplated the 8 words, the Holy Spirit began to flood my mind with the reality that TODAY, God wants us to be still, and allow Him to be God in every area of our lives.

Today, God says to you, ‘be still’:
Be still as it relates to your career.
Be still as it relates to your children.
Be still as it relates to your health.
Be still as it relates to your finances.
Be still as it relates to your calling.
Be still as it relates to your future.
I hope you’re getting the message…Be Still!

Most of us have heard this scripture before. I have a friend who uses it as her Facebook name. But I believe that today the Holy Spirit wants us to truly grasp the magnitude of the meaning of this scripture.

Today He wants to set us free from the bondage of fear that we have been living in. Sometimes that bondage has been subconscious, evidenced only by all of your decisions and choices that have been made from a position of worry, and caution.

As I continued to contemplatively sit in God’s presence, images of two children at an airport gate came to mind. Here’s the scenario. Two families are on their way to a week of sun and sea bathing in Tobago, but the flight to their first stop is delayed by at least 2 hours, because of bad weather. Updates by the airline are being provided as they become available.

The first child is wildly running around the gate under the watchful eye of her parents. She bobs and weaves between the rows of seats and trips over a piece of luggage. She gets up, picks up the luggage, and is on the run again. She says hello to another little girl and they play tag together. After a while, she runs back to her parents and grabs a bottle of water and a bowl of fruit. She snacks for a minute then is off again. This time she sits in front of the large window with her new friend, and draws images of the planes outside the window on the tarmac.

Child 2 sits close to her mom and holds onto her hand tightly. She is distraught about having to sit and wait for two more hours after having gotten to the gate an hour before the flight. She is worried that they won’t make the connection in Trinidad, or that their luggage may not make it in time. After multiple prompts by her parents, she eventually pauses for a snack of fruit and takes a few sips of water before going back to pondering the possibilities of what might happen.

Which child are you? Pause and contemplate before giving your answer. Perhaps you’re a combination of both kids.

Today your Abba Father wants you to truly understand that “He has already given you EVERYTHING that you need to live a Godly life”, 2 Peter 3:1. I pray that each scripture included here will become Rhema to you as you read this post.

Both children in the scenario are presented with the same circumstances but they make very different choices.

Child 1 is “taking no thought for tomorrow”, she is getting exercise, making friends, expanding her sphere of influence, and enhancing her creativity. She is clearly enjoying herself.

Child 2 is creatively exploring scenarios in her mind, but she is clearly not enjoying herself.

I want to call to remembrance what 1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

I want to point out the message that comes immediately before, in verse 7, “Cast all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].”

Many times we get bogged down with concern over the possible actions of our ‘prowling enemy’, but today, God wants us to shift our focus to the importance of ‘casting all our cares…’ Why does He instruct us to do it?

Here is what the Holy Spirit revealed to me. God wants us to cast/release/relinquish our cares because we have an enemy who wants to bind us up so tightly in those cares that we are made immobile, ineffective, and impotent. Did you get that? Let me rephrase it. Satan is on the prowl for those who hold on to their cares, because our cares become fuel that he can use to start and sustain fires that burn down everything in our lives.

Child 2 held on to and became consumed by her cares, and all she could do was sit and sulk. She was immobile, ineffective, and impotent. Child 1 ‘cast her cares’, so those cares had no impact on her. No fuel, no fire.

Child of God, I want to challenge you to be still and know that you serve the true and living God. Today, I admonish you to cast/throw/toss ALL of your worries on your Abba Father who is responsible for your care.

Finally, let’s pause and ponder what God’s word says in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]”

Here’s some of what I get from that verse. Our perfect peace is in God. Trials and distress are inevitable, but we should remain undaunted because they have already been resolved by our Abba Father, so they can’t harm us.

Further, we can be still when we relinquish our cares to our Abba Father who cares for us dearly, thereby robbing the enemy of the opportunity to use our fears to impact our lives.

I pray that this post has blessed you.

If you’ve never asked Christ to be Lord of your life please pray this prayer. ‘Lord Jesus, I am sorry for my sin please forgive me, cleanse me, and make me your child. I commit my life to you today, and ask you to be my Lord and Savior. In Jesus’ name, amen.’

  1. Again, you have encouraged and reminded us (me) of the immeasurable love God has for us (me). Thank you. Blessings

  2. My Lord Sis, thank you for sharing this devotional/message. Always timely, think I’m both kids at times. When I’m child 1 I might not pray as I should ( give issue to God and forget bout issue)
When I’m child 2 my type A personality has my mind going over, and over what God and I should be doing. Not listening to what God alone wants to do. But, I’m tired and will definitely Be Still Sis it’s time! Thank you so much🙏🏽♥️
