Who’s Been Playing Mind Games

I recently presented in an online workshop and throughout my presentation, I was praying that the attendees weren’t bored. I was wondering how many left because they didn’t find it valuable. I even visualized their frustrated faces and at times I was tempted to skip some of the material so that the presentation would be shorter. After the workshop, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that many of the attendees enjoyed the presentation and found it to be very valuable.

That day I had a first-hand experience of how unreliable our thoughts and emotions are: at the very instant I was thinking that I was doing a terrible job, I was, in fact, doing a great job and providing valuable information to people who wanted to hear it. In what areas have you been allowing your thoughts and feelings to guide your life?

I have since challenged myself to be intentional about “taking every thought captive and making them obedient to Christ” 2 Cor 10:5. I have purposed to not live by what I see, think, or feel but instead choose to believe what God’s word says in every situation. If this scenario resonates with you, I want to challenge you to do the same.

Proverbs 23:7 says, “…as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” That’s why it’s important to “…hide God’s word in your heart….” Proverbs 23:7 A spiritually healthy person has a healthy heart and a healthy heart is full of the word of God.

Here’s are some examples of what God’s word says about you.
God says:

  • I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, 2 Corinthians 5:21
  • I am the head and not the tail. Deuteronomy 28:13
  • I am seated in heavenly places with Christ, Ephesians 2:6
  • Greater works than Christ did on earth, I will do, John 14:12
  • I am redeemed from the curse of the law. Galatians 3:13
  • The nations of the earth are blessed through me. Genesis 22:18
  • I can do all things through Christ Philippians 4: 14
  • I shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover – mark 16:18
  • I have authority over all of the power of the enemy and nothing can harm me. Luke 10:19
  • I shall decree a thing and it shall be established. Job 22:28
  • My God shall supply all my needs Philippians 4: 19
  • Nothing is impossible for me. Matthew 17:20
  • Everything I do prospers Psalm 1:3 & Deuteronomy 30:9
  • No plague shall come near my dwelling. Psalm 91:10
  • No weapon formed against me will prosper. Isaiah 54:17
  • I shall drink anything deadly and will not be harmed. Mark 16:18
  • I will bless the Lord and his praise will always be in my mouth, Psalm 34:1.
  • My prayer is powerful and effective. James 5:16
  • Christ in me the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27
  • I delight in the Lord and he grants me the desires of my heart. Psalm 37:4
  • I have faith as a mustard seed; I move mountains. Matthew 17:20
  • I ask, and it is given to me, I seek, and I find, I knock, and the door is opened to me. Matthew 7:7
  • I keep praying and never stop or lose hope. I never give up. Luke 18:1
  • I know my God, so I am strong, and I do exploits. Daniel 11:32

Right now, you’re probably feeling overwhelmed with joy. That’s exactly how I felt after reading through this list for the first time, and actually for the second and third times as well. Quite uniquely though, I am pretty sure that you’ve heard most of those before. Why is that we often allow the lies of the enemy to hold us back from living as the people who we know God created us to be?

“Stop it!” I’m talking to myself here. Really! I’m reminding myself to shut down the lies around me and live in the truth of God’s word daily.

If this is all too much for to you, choose just one scripture above and muse over it. Listen and hear your Heavenly Father speaking it over you. Let it sink deep into your heart until you begin to receive it as truth. “For whatever God says to us is full of living power: it is sharper than the sharpest dagger, cutting swift and deep into our innermost thoughts and desires with all their parts, exposing us for what we really are” Hebrews 4:12.

What hidden hurts, doubts, fears and grudges are you carrying around that are ‘clogging up your arteries’. Give they to Him one by one as He shines the light of His word on them. Won’t you join me on this amazing journey? Let’s see what God will do in and through us as we fill out hearts with His word. Remember, “…we can do all things through Christ….” Philippians 4:13
