Dry Bones, Hear the Word of the Lord!

Recently, God has been speaking to me about the areas in my life in which I have settled into disbelief. Those areas that I have given up hope on and accepted as fact that things just won’t happen, that things are just what they are and will remain as such.

During a time of prayer, my Abba, in His mercy, led me to explore Ezekiel 37, and the revelation wrecked me, so I’m sharing a bit of my findings with you with the hope that it will move you closer to Jesus and strength your relationship with him.

Ezekiel 37:4-5 ERV says, “Then he said to me, “Speak to these bones for me. Tell them, ‘Dry bones, listen to the word of the Lord! This is what the Lord GOD says to you: I will cause breath to come into you, and you will come to life!””

Did you get that? Ezekiel spoke on behalf of God. He was just God’s mouthpiece. Similarly, when we speak to the “dry bones” in our lives, we are speaking on His behalf; we are to speak ‘the Word of the Lord’.

John 10:10 reminds us that our Abba Father desires that we live a “life that is full and good” ERV. That ‘good life’ is about fulfilling His purpose and calling, and that may require calling things that you have given up on, like the field of dry bones, back into being. I especially like that when He resuscitates things, they don’t just come alive, they THRIVE: the random array of dry bones in the valley became a formidable army.

Someone reading this is at the absolute end of your hope, and God wants to use this article to speak directly to you. Today I want to strongly impress upon you that God loves you unconditionally, and He has already made provision for that thing/those things that you have given up hope on. Acknowledge that He is Lord and that He has the answer, then respond in obedience. Even as you are reading this, your Abba Father will begin to change your situation, and you will begin to see a glimmer of hope shining through the dark and gloomy skies of your life.

Have you forgotten who Jesus is? Let me remind you that Jesus is the Creator of the Universe. The one who spoke the worlds into existence. The one who created EVERY plant, tree, and animal that exists. The one who formed man from soil then breathed life into Man. The one who formed woman from a single rib of the man he created. The one who maintains the planets’ orbits, the Sun’s temperature, the seasons, and shorelines.

Let me remind you that Jesus is the Savior of the world. The one who spoke to the winds and waves and they obeyed. The one who walked on water. The one who cursed the fig tree and it withered. The one who raised the dead, opened blind eyes, and healed EVERY type of disease. The one who died and conquered death, hell, and the grave, then rose from the dead to save ALL of mankind and restore us to right relationship with God our Heavenly Father.

Let me remind you that Jesus is your Abba Father. Yes, the Creator of the universe and the Savior of the world is your Heavenly Father. The one who says that He loves you without condition. The one who says nothing can stop Him from loving you. The one who says that you are His beloved child.

In verse 7 of Ezekiel 37, Ezekiel’s narrative continues, “So I spoke to the bones for the Lord, as he said. I was still speaking, when I heard the loud noise. The bones began to rattle, and bone joined together with bone!”

In obedience, Elisha spoke the Word of God to the dry bones, and mid-sentence, signs of life began to appear as God began to move in response to his obedience.

Today, I want to encourage you to act in obedience: begin speaking to the dead situations in your life, and watch God, your Abba Father, begin to stir the bones, add tendons and muscle, and cover them up with flesh. Then do just as he promised in verse 14, “I will put my Spirit in you, and you will come to life again. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”

Heavenly Father, thank you for your word imparted through this article. I pray for each person reading it today, that you will capture their heart with Your love and pour hope into them. By Your Holy Spirit, help them to speak Your words of life to every area that seems dead, believing in faith that You can revive the unresponsive. Even while they are speaking, I pray that you would begin to move in response to their obedience: Abba Father, open doors, supply needs, heal the sick, give wisdom where needed, bring wayward children back home, infuse finances into depleted accounts, and turn around hopeless situations. In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen!
